Group G overview

Group G features two of the highest-individual-quality CONCACAF/CAF/AFC groups at the tournament. Belgium under Rudi Garcia (appointed January 2026 after Domenico Tedesco's dismissal) is post-Golden Generation but still includes Kevin De Bruyne (Napoli), Romelu Lukaku (Roma) and Jérémy Doku (Manchester City).

Egypt under Hossam Hassan — the legendary former striker who was Egypt's all-time top scorer until Mohamed Salah surpassed him in 2024. Salah arrives chasing further records and his first World Cup appearance since 2018. The squad also includes Trézéguet, Mostafa Mohamed, and Liverpool's Marwan Atalla.

Iran at their seventh World Cup, under Amir Ghalenoei, with the spine of Mehdi Taremi (Inter Milan), Sardar Azmoun (Shabab Al-Ahli) and Saman Ghoddos (Brentford). New Zealand at their third World Cup but first since 2010 — a 16-year absence — under Darren Bazeley.

Standings outlook & knockout path

Most likely winner: Belgium (priced around 1.95). De Bruyne is the most-creative midfielder in the group by a clear margin and Garcia's tactical setup suits transition football.
