Teams in Group B

Group B overview

Group B is one of the most balanced groups at the tournament — three teams ranked between 19 and 42 in FIFA's world rankings, plus Bosnia at 70 who reached this World Cup via their first appearance since 2014. Canada, the second-most-experienced co-host (after Mexico), open at home against Bosnia at BMO Field in Toronto on 12 June. Jesse Marsch — appointed in May 2024 — has built a 4-2-3-1 around Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies and Lille's Jonathan David.

Switzerland under Murat Yakin remain one of the most consistent tournament sides in European football — they have reached the knockout stage of every major tournament since Euro 2016 except one. The squad includes Granit Xhaka (Bayer Leverkusen), Manuel Akanji (Manchester City) and Breel Embolo (Monaco).

Qatar arrive under Julen Lopetegui — appointed in November 2025 after the dismissal of Bartolomé Márquez — at their second World Cup. The 2022 hosts have improved significantly since their disappointing 0-3 group stage at home, qualifying second in their AFC final group behind Iran. They face Switzerland in the early Group B fixture before the host opener.

Standings outlook & knockout path

Most likely winner: Switzerland (priced around 1.95). The deepest squad of the four and the most experienced tournament side.

Most likely runner-up: Canada. Home advantage plus Davies' individual quality should be enough to grab second.

Best longshot for second: Qatar. Lopetegui's tactical preparation has historically delivered, and the squad is more cohesive than the 2022 hosts version.

Bosnia third place is the modal outcome. They beat Sweden in qualifying but lack squad depth at major tournament intensity.
